Trane

One of the joys of the evening when the mood takes over is to turn down the lights & listen to John Coltrane.
His playing mesmerises & fills you with longing. Lifting your spirit when you are down. He was an inspired player who's music has a mystical, spiritual quality that was central to his approach.

From 1955 to 1967 he produced some brilliant work forever altering the landscape of modern jazz. "A love Supreme" for me remains his masterpiece & an album I never tire of listening to.However that is not to discount his touch on earlier pieces " Naima" & " After the rain". Both tracks evoke deep memories for me, which is as it should be." Naima" particularly reflects emotions I feel for someone close to me.

He has influenced many modern players, some who have become nothing but imitators where others like Courtney Pine who have incorporated Tranes sound & built on it.
He was a truly gifted original musician & composer.
